What's in a name

Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

In case anyone else did not catch this I will show you what I just in fact realized myself... this was a msg to Abraham and we know he had Isaac whom had Jacob and Esua... note this...

Genesis 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Jacob made those foolish decissions that we talked about... the women... the stealing his brothers birthright then his blessing... I will admit I am not as well versed in the old testiment books as I should be... but I don't remember being taught that those things were done while he was not a follower of God.

God called him back to worship and after his returnti Him, God changed his name (which I always wondered where the name Isreal popped up because I forgot God changed Jacob's name)

On the idea of name changes. Abram was changed to Abraham after a huge event that changes his life... just as Jacob was changed to Isreal... even Saul after his conversion on the road to Damascus started referring to himself as Paul. We, when we have made our life alterring choice to serve our savior also take one a new name. We take on Christ. Christain means to be Christ like or atleast that's what we strive to do. We are a follower of Him, and student, we strive to be like Christ.

So just remember to represent!
