Chapter 6 part 2
Sorry I took a little time off to think about what we just studied… I know many people may think I have back tracked into the Old Testament teachings because I have started to try an observe the Sabbath, although I don’t do it as well as I would like to admit. This keeping of the Sabbath I know is not what allows me to earn Heaven…. I will never earn heaven. I view the Sabbath’s day rest as a blessing, one I have to work at rejuvenating, it’s a time spent in refreshing our walk with God and regrouping for the rest of the week. I don’t have a problem with attending where others choose to observe the Sabbath… I don’t have a problem attending service on Sunday… an evening anytime during the week with other Christians who may not all agree the same way but all work toward having a relationship with God and sharing the gospel with others. Does keeping tithes or observing any old testament law hurt us in anyway? No… do I believe it’s necessary? No… what we studied last showed us we are saved now through Christ! Not through works (Dead works Heb 6:1)… Not of our faith toward God!
Heb 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
Notice in the old testament time there was none greater than God to swear by.
Heb 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Heb 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
So God filled His promise because He swore by that promise
Heb 6:16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
Heb 6:17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
I like knowing it is impossible for God to lie… then he reinforces this by swearing upon Himself LoL… We will continue to see that things are even stronger now because of Christ backing up His father’s oath.
Heb 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Jesus is our anchor
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Next we will further study in Chapter 7 what this means as we look into Melchisedec
